GRAND THEFT AUTO III lets you live the life of a mobster complete with carjackings, robberies, and contract hits. While previous games in the series were played from a 2D, top-down perspective, GTA III is in full 3D, and it looks amazing. As you rise in rank through the "family," your missions will get more challenging and more dangerous, but you should be well equipped with weapons and gadgetry to be successful if you’ve got the guts. Get ready to start a new "family" with GRAND THEFT AUTO III.
The GRAND THEFT AUTO series has been a mainstay on the PlayStation for several years. Played from a 2D, top-down perspective, players took the role of an aspiring member of an organized crime syndicate. Your goal was to commit enough crimes and perform enough "favors" to prove that you belonged in the "family." Now, thanks to the power of the PlayStation 2, the series shifts to a full 3D perspective with GRAND THEFT AUTO III. While the gameplay remains largely the same you’ll have to pull off carjackings, robberies, and even some assassinations the overall experience is completely new thanks to the visual presentation. Whether it’s in a car or on foot, you’ll interact with a living world as you try to work your way into your very own crime family. As you complete jobs, the tasks get more challenging and more dangerous, but you’ll be rewarded with weapons that are more powerful and gadgets along the way. If you just can’t seem to get enough of the SOPRANOS and you love the GODFATHER, then you need GRAND THEFT AUTO III.
